Lehman Brothers: Obama's Rezko-Auchi conflict of interest

Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama was quick to blame the bankruptcy of Wall Street giant Lehman Brothers on Republicans' "failed philosophy". Obama's September 15 comments were repeated throughout the media--yet reporters have not noted Obama's glaring conflict of interest-the Lehman debt owed to a bank owned by the financier who loaned millions of dollars to Tony Rezko.

Jockeying among the other debtors seeking repayment under Chapter 11 bankruptcy rules is BNP Paribas, a large French bank whose largest single private shareholder is Nadhmi Auchi's General Mediterranean Holdings (GMH). BNP Paribas is owed $250 million by Lehman.

Nadhmi Auchi is an Iraqi whose Baathist ties go back to 1959. A formerly high-ranking official in Iraq's Oil Ministry, Auchi left Iraq at the end of the 1970s. His wealth then grew exponentially as a procurer of arms for Saddam Hussein's government during the Iran-Iraq war. He is now one of the richest men in Britain. Saddam Hussein in 1995 selected BNP, which later merged with Paribas, as the sole conduit bank handling Oil-for-Food transactions. This Clinton-era arrangement was changed in 2001 by the incoming Bush administration.

Auchi was also a key financial backer for Chicago political fixer and dual US-Syrian citizen Tony Rezko. This writer explained the complex web of relationships in an August 24 article titled, "Iraqi Billionaire Threatens Reporters Investigating Rezko Affair"

Did you know that George W. Bush once made fun of the issue of Weapons of Mass Destruction?
He did, and in front of some shocked people during a black-tie event in 2004.
He said.... (While looking under a piece of furniture) "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere."
Then, while pretending to look out of a window, Bush laughed as he said..... "Nope, no weapons over there."
While he was laughing, there were men and women fighting and dying in Iraq because of WMD.
George W. Bush should be removed from office because of that alone.
Face it, Bill Clinton lied about having sex, and was impeached because of it.
George W. Bush however, did far worse, as he laughed at the very people who are fighting for the United States of America!
Bush laughs at a lot of things.
While we were under attack, he just sat there.
He has no clue about how to run things.
But he knows how to run away, as in AWOL from the military.
Bush is nothing more than a coward who laughs while sending others off to war.
Our brave troops deserve better!

Bush, Sununu, and all other war lovers are really feeling the heat that is being put on them by the people of this country who oppose the war.
From sit-ins to street protests and moms yelling "Why is my boy over there?", America has had enough of this Bush war.
Iraq has turned into another Vietnam with no end in sight.
We are not making the world safer by being in Iraq.
In fact, we are making things worse.
If this is a war on terror, then why are there more terrorists in Iraq now, than before the war started?
The war has cost thousands of American lives, and wounded and maimed many thousands more.
The money spent on the war is now over $420 billion dollars and is fast approaching $500 billion.
Just think, we paid that much to create this mess.
It is time for Congress to deauthorize this war.
As Hillary Clinton said, "If the president will not bring himself to accept reality, it is time for Congress to bring reality to him."

Paul Hodes and the War Families.

How dare those war families disrespect Paul Hodes and his wife for their stance on the war in Iraq.
It is clear that many military family members are blind to the facts of the war and why we are there.
While I support our troops, the fact is that they have no business being in Iraq.
This is supposed to be a war on terror, yet Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or terrorism.
Since Bush started this war, Iraq has become a haven for terrorists, and no one is safe there.
Iraq is a hellhole and getting worse.
Bush and Sununu have no clue how to fix the mess.
The money spent on this war now exceeds $420 billion dollars.
In time, it could reach two trillion dollars.
Why would anyone in their right mind support it?
It is wrong.
The war in Iraq is based on a lie, and these war families who kiss Bush's backside, have no regard for the future soldiers who will die because these idiot families want to stay in a war that is not making the world any safer.
Bring the troops home and send Bush, Sununu, and these war families over there.
Maybe then they will all shut up!

It has been a long time since there was a candidate with a groundswell of support... particularly one who has yet to declare his candicacy. New Hampshire's motto is "Live Free or Die". Nonetheless, we continue to vote for candidates who want ever bigger federal power. Other than Ron Paul, the currently declared candidates all are happy to tell us how they would use federal power to bring us their vision for America. Rudy Guiliani is certainly an effective administrator, but will expand federal power to enforce law and order. McCain and Romney can be trusted to pander and sacrifice their beliefs when it is politically expedient. Ron Paul has so little support, that he is being dropped from national results. The polls generally require that 1% of respondents name you to keep you as an entry. Dr. Paul has managed less than one half of one percent in several straw polls (due in no small part to his assertion that we brought 9/11 on ourselves). We need an effective communicator who can help end the diviseness of the last few elections. Fred Thompson, despite the fact he has yet to declare, and has yet to spend a dime, has a significant amount of support and is ahead of Romney and McCain in many cases. Help us elect a candidate of the people with a no nonsense approach to government. New York and California should not determine our values.
