Smiling as he takes his place behind the counter, businessman and longtime brickmason Patrick Chasse has re-opened his Chasse Variety store for the first time in two years. Chasse said he plans to sell the store and start up a free school for masonry to pass on the skills he’s learned over the past 60 years.

Team 501 FIRST robot

Tom Provencher of Bedford stands with the robot just constructed by West High School’s Team 501 for the FIRST robotics competition, which takes place Thursday, Feb. 28, through Saturday, March 1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. Forty-eight teams from around the Northeast had six weeks to design and build a robot capable of picking up large balls and running around a track for this year’s game, called First Overdrive. Teams from West, Central and Memorial, as well as Pembroke Academy and other schools will compete in the three-day regional event, with winners going to the world competition in Atlanta.

Auburn Village School play

Auburn Village School students put on a production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Children’s State Adventures instructors Hilary Kraus and Kristen Pickthall began auditioning and rehearsing on Monday, Feb. 11, after school for two productions on Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16. Children’s Stage Adventures is national travelling theater group that puts on plays with students all across the United States and Canada.
