This is a photo of an insect-eating sundew plant. They seem to be particularly abundant this year!
I took this photo on June 20 - the summer solstice - at Sallie's Fen - which is a special wetland adjoining our property here in Barrington.  UNH scientists have been studying this fen  a fen is basically a bog which has a small stream running through it  for more than 15 years.  They are trying to understand the role such wetlands play in terms of their emissions or uptake of the climate change gases CO2 and methane.
Sallie's Fen is also famous in the local area for raising alpacas - we will be taking part in the first annual Barrington Open Farm Day next weekend  Sun June 29 10-3 .  Unlike our sundew plants the alpacas are all vegetarians!
