The world’s largest double terminated “set†gemstone will make it’s debut appearance on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Holiday Inn, Nashua, NH during the Angels, Trinkets and Faeries Holiday Fair produced by Advocates of Holistic Health (www.aohh.org). The crystal – dubbed the Munay-Ki Crystal has been set in a specially designed and craftfully engineered metal mobile sculpture (bringing the total weight to close to 5500 pounds). The Munay-Ki is double terminated and is estimated to be approximately 150,000,000 (150 million) to 200,000,000 (200 million) years old. Ross Ellis who is the steward of the crystal and the artist responsible for the mobile sculpture that is it’s setting will be present at the event to answer questions about the crystal, his artwork and the deeper meaning of the Munay-Ki. Over 7 feet tall when fully erect in it’s setting, the crystal is surrounded by a stage that will allow for safe public access and the ability to have a close encounter with this magnificent natural wonder. Double terminated crystals form in deep pockets in the earth and ones of this size are extremely rare. The mobile sculpture created by Mr. Ellis allows for the crystal to be displayed in all it’s glory. “A lot of folks suggested that I cut one end off in order to have the crystal stand upright†says Mr. Ellis, “but I just couldn’t do that to this crystal – it had to stay completely intact, which is why I chose to create this “setting†for it.†Taking over a year to design, fabricate and finish, the mobile sculpture setting alone is an engineering marvel that allows one person to move an object that weighs more than a car through a 3 foot door opening. “Many people looked at me like I was crazy and said it couldn’t be done, but I was persistent and unwilling to compromise on what I knew could be created†says the artist.
The Holiday Fair where the crystal will debut commences at 9:30 am on Sunday the 9th of November at the Holiday Inn and is open to the general public for a small admission fee. In addition to hosting the debut of the crystal, the event will also feature local crafters, holistic healers and in the Bounty Room there will be a large variety of kid friendly activities hosted by the L’il Iguana Children’s Safety Foundation which is a beneficiary of the event. “I’m very grateful to Angie D’Anjou, the producer of the fair, for her willingness to allow us to debut the Munay-Ki here in the City†says Mr. Ellis. “It’s a pleasure to be able to share the beauty of this gem that is a gift from the Mother Earthâ€. “Part of my intention in displaying the crystal is to raise awareness of the beauty and power that the Earth has as a creative force and to share in the education of the public about the importance of our natural resources.†“As an unofficial member of Nashua’s Green Team and a consultant working with renewable energy sources it is my intent to use the crystal to help educate about solar power – since quartz (silicon dioxide) is the primary component in solar panels and collectors.â€
