The level-5 girls gymnastics team from Windham’s Gym-Ken Gymnastics took third place at the state championship meet on March 15, competing against more than 80 girls from 15 gyms across the state.
To compete at the state level, each athlete needed to achieve a score of 33.0 or above during one of two state sectional meets. All five Gym-Ken athletes reached the threshold at the first sectional.
Yet despite the modest number of gymnasts, Gym-Ken showed consistency and competence in each event – vault, bars, beam and floor.
Among the 26 11- and 12-year-old athletes, Madison MacPhee of Salem won the all-around with 36.225 points, including first place on vault, second on beam and third on bars and floor.
Lindsay Maffei of Windham took fourth place on vault, helping her to ninth place in the all-around.
In the 10-year-old age group, which included 30 competitors, Julianna Corsetto placed fifth on bars with a 9.350 and 10th in the all-around. Leah Pacunas scored. 9.150 on bars en route to a 15th-place finish in the all-around.
Erica Muse of Salem also posted her strongest effort on bars and took 16th place in the all-around.
