Police said an alcohol-fueled
argument led to a motel room
stabbing on Rockingham Road
that left two people hospitalized
with knife wounds and another
two under arrest.
Leo Martin Jr., 41, and Diane
Batchelor, 31, both of Salem,
were taken into custody on assault
charges after police responded
to a report of a shooting
– later found to be erroneous – in
Room 115 of the Manor Motel at
1:56 p.m., Thursday, July 24.
Authorities found Joseph
Young, 48, and Maureen Cobbett,
50, injured with multiple
knife wounds.
Martin and Batchelor fled
the scene in a Ford Ranger pickup
truck and were later caught
and arrested by Salem police.
Young and Cobbett were
treated for their injuries by
Windham and Salem fire department
personnel and transported
to the Parkland Medical Center
in Derry.
Cobbett suffered a severe cut
on her thumb and Young had
two stab wounds.
On two separate occasions
earlier in the day, police responded
to the same location
after receiving reports of an assault
and loud noises.
At the time of the second
altercation, Batchelor was already
under investigation for
assaulting Cobbett after the
couples began arguing earlier in
the day.
