Bad check lands legislator in court

BY DARRELL HALEN

A state legislator from Windham is scheduled to appear in court to answer a charge that he wrote a bad check when registering a car.

Christopher Doyle, 28, of 4 Hawley Road, Windham, is expected to appear in Salem District Court on Dec. 4.

Windham police have charged him with writing a check for $333.50 to the town of Windham in September for registration of a Toyota sedan.

Capt. Carl Wagner said the account was closed in 2003 and that Doyle did not respond to two letters asking him to correct the situation. Doyle faces up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine if convicted on the misdemeanor charge.

In a separate case, Doyle faces a felony charge of assaulting poll worker Gail Webster last year after he lost a re-election bid to the board of selectmen.

Doyle did not seek re-election to the Legislature this year.
