Weare man charged in murder

BY MATT SCHOOLEY

A Weare man has been charged with beating a Manchester woman to death and sending another man to the hospital.

Police say a neighborhood feud may have led to the victims being beaten with a baseball bat, but details on the motive are still under investigation.

According to court documents, Edith Riley’s four children were home early on Saturday, Oct. 11, at her Valley Street apartment when Todd Peters allegedly came into the apartment and beat Riley to death. Riley’s boyfriend, Timothy King, 21, was also sent to the hospital.

The report said Riley’s 12- year-old daughter, Rebecca, was woken up by the sound of her mother screaming and came out of her room where she saw a man with a bat. She called 911, and when police arrived they found the victims slumped over one another on the couch.

Rebecca described the man to police, and said she believed it to be Peters. She told police she was about 75 percent certain the man she had seen that night was Peters.

According to reports from the Union Leader, Riley had known Peters since she was about 14. Peters also dated Riley’s sister as a teenager.

Peters is being held without bail for the attack and being charged with felony seconddegree murder and first-degree assault after the Tuesday, Oct. 14, probable cause hearing.
