Body found at Rockingham Park Racetrack

BY DERRICK PERKINS

Police officials are waiting for the autopsy and toxicology results on the body of a 23- year-old woman found dead at the Rockingham Park Racetrack on May 21, but are not considering her death as suspicious.

The body of the woman was discovered inside one of the cottages located on the back side of the racetrack sometime before 3:30 p.m., according to authorities. Officials said there was no evidence at the scene that made the death appear suspicious.

Authorities now believe it may have been a possible drug overdose.

Police officials expected to have the results from the tests in the next two to three weeks.

Though details are slim, having had years of exposure to those effected by drugs & alcohol, I have to say, this death sounds suspicious to me. Why would a 23 y/o female go 'alone' to such a quiet place, to do drugs, when most people who do drugs, do so with 'friends'? (term used loosely) If the scene and evidence found included a suicide note; did 'she' write it, and if so, did she do so under duress, at the hands of another? This is so sad. not only for her, but for those she leaves behind. Though law enforcement officials have their hands full, in our society, I'd hate to 'anyone' 'assume' that just because she may have used drugs, that this 'is' a suicide or accidental death, without at least giving this young life, and those who love her, the benefit of the doubt, via a thorough investigation.
