Salem teen dies in crash

BY DERRICK PERKINS

The cause of a car crash in nearby Atkinson that left one local teen dead and another hospitalized on May 5 remains under investigation, though state police believe excessive speed contributed to the accident.

Robert C. Stuart, 18, of Salem was pronounced dead on the scene after the 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier he was driving veered off the eastbound shoulder of Island Pond Road and into a tree at 12:03 a.m. According to authorities, Stuart had been heading west before the accident.

A 16-year-old female passenger from Derry was transported to the Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, Mass., before being Med-Flighted to the Boston Medical Center.

Neither Stuart nor his passenger were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, state police said.

State police were assisted at the scene by Atkinson police and Atkinson Fire Rescue.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to contact State Trooper Tamara Hester at 679- 3333.

Robert Stuart was the same guy that was involved in the attack at a Salisbury beach house last June when people tried to take his sister's keys away to prevent her from driving when intoxicated.  Robert, his drunk sister and a few friends (one of which is incarcerated for shooting and killing his friend Diedre) viciously attacked those that had tried to help his sister with pipes, wrenches and smashed someone with  bottle of chanpagne causing the person to get many stitches.  So wonder no one would take his keys to keep him safe.

Thanks Lisa for your honesty and insight. The needless waste of young lives unfortunately continues. Do you think a more professional police force in Atkinson, Hampstead, and Sandown might help to prevent more senseless tragedies among the teens and young adults in our communities?

I do not believe the issue is one of a lack of commitment or professionalism of the local police forces.  The police in these communities appear to go above and beyond for the residents.  I believe the issue may be a result of a lack of parenting and the modeling these young adults have been exposed to.  Sorrentino's family has an extensive criminal history.  As far as Stuart, both he and his sister had been involved in senseless violence and society is the only victim.  Raising children to be contributing members of society takes hard work and parents that ensure they demonstrate strong morals and values.   Too many parents expect the teachers and society to raise their children and take little or no responsibilty when things go wrong.

Robbie was not intoxicated the night he passed away - so there was no reason for anyone to take his keys that night.
