In her first try since last season, Leeann Vadala won the all-around competition
on Friday, Jan. 11, and her Lady Blue Devils extended their record to 9-0 with
wins over Spaulding and Dover.
Vadala, who has been nursing a knee injury, finished with a 34.45 all-around
score, more than a point ahead of Spaulding’s Kaitlyn O’Brien, 33.4,
and Salem teammate Jolena Diefendorf, who notched a 33.3-point third-place finish.
Though no Blue Devil placed on vault, Salem swept the bars behind Vadala’s
8.6, Diefendorf’s 8.2 and Shireen Kirata’s 8.1, a personal best.
Kirata also bested her previous high on floor, finishing third with an 8.8, tied
with Vadala.
The two also placed on beam, with Vadala winning the event with an 8.8 and Kirata
earning third with an 8.4.
Salem scored 133.85 against Spaulding’s 125.65 and Dover’s 83.95.
Three days earlier, on Jan. 8, Salem scored 133.45 in defeating Londonderry and
Pelham.
Vadala continued her dominance on bars with a 9.0. She was followed by Diefendorf
who scored an 8.4.
Pelham standout Chelsea I’Anson won beam with a 9.15. Vadala placed second
with an 8.65.
Jordan Buatti’s personal-best 8.25 on beam fell short of a top-three finish.
On floor, Diefendorf and Kirata, whose tally was a personal best, tied for second
with 8.7, just ahead of Buatti’s 8.4.
Jessica Maffeo finished third on vault with an 8.45.
Diefendorf placed second in the all-around with a 33.5 four-event total, behind
Londonderry’s Taylor Carr, and I’Anson finished third with 32.85.
