It’s where the New England Patriots battle their opponents and the New England Revolution professional soccer team takes on its rivals.
And in 2010, it’s where Salem and Windham students are expected to be celebrating one of the most memorable events of their high school careers: their senior prom.
Members of the class of 2010 will be partying at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
“We’re pretty excited about it and I think it will be an unforgettable day for everyone,” said Deb Wilmarth, a class adviser. The Salem School Board has already signed off on the plan, and permission will be sought from Windham School Board members.
Not all local facilities are big enough to accommodate a large number of promgoers. In the past, Wilmarth said, some promgoers have found themselves eating in separate rooms.
Organizers for the class of 2010’s prom were looking for a venue that could accommodate a large number of students and their guests. The stadium can accommodate more than 1,400 people, Wilmarth said.
Students and their guests will travel to the stadium on chaperan excellent security staff, according to Wilmarth.
Organizers hope to make the event free for every class member who wants to attend. They are already raising money, selling SHS stickers and water bottles, Texas Roadhouse gift certificates – the class receives 10 percent for each one sold – and poinsettias.
“They really want this to happen,” said Wilmarth. “They want this to work.”
