A North Andover, Mass., man accused of robbing a Salem bank was identified by his boss, who saw photographs of the crime broadcast during a TV newscast.
John R. Macedonia, 48, of 34 Main Street, Apt. 2, North Andover, Mass., was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail when he was arraigned on Friday, Nov. 2.
Macedonia allegedly passed a note demanding money to a teller at the Citizens Bank at 45 S. Broadway around 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
When the woman did not understand what Macedonia wanted, he told her to give him all her money and he fled with more than $2,500, according to a police affidavit.
That night, according to the affidavit, the manager of a Tewksbury, Mass., company who is Macedonia’s boss recognized Macedonia from photographs of the robbery shown during a TV newscast. The following morning, the manager provided a statement to police and told them that Macedonia walks with a distinct gait.
A bank employee who was eating lunch in her car told police she saw a man with a distinct gait walk into the bank and leave with something in his hands at the time of the robbery. She provided a physical description to police.
The employee described the car the man left in as a Ford Taurus. The teller described the car the robber left in as a Ford Taurus with a plate number that begins with the number 8.
Police learned that Macedonia has a gray Ford Taurus and the number 8 is the first digit of his plate number.
A booking photo of Macedonia was obtained from the North Andover, Mass., police department that appeared to match the robber, according to the affidavit.
The teller identified Macedonia from photos of eight men shown to her by police, according to the affidavit.
