Slain Manchester police officer Michael Briggs was honored on Friday, June 15, at Pembroke Academy.
Briggs was a graduate of the Class of 1990, and during the Class of 2007 senior convocation, he was inducted into the school’s Wall of Fame.
“We wanted to honor Michael Briggs in light of the tragedy last fall,” said Michael Reardon, headmaster of Pembroke Academy.
Briggs was shot by a suspect while on his nightly bike patrol with police officer Nathan Linstad.
Linstad spoke at the induction, and Briggs’ parents, Leland and Maryann Briggs, received a crystal bowl from Reardon in honor of their son’s induction.
Briggs joins Sen. John Sullivan, Class of 1821, who was also inducted this year, and other notable graduates like Honeywell CEO David Cote.
Reardon said the Wall of Fame was established three years ago for a dual purpose. First, it is meant to give students a sense of tradition. Second, it honors those who walked the same halls and are now role models.
Pembroke Academy was established in 1818. Reardon noted that the school has graduated three governors.
“The Wall of Fame makes kids aware of the possibilities when they see what other graduates have done with their lives,” said Reardon.
