PELHAM – Pelham Police arrested a middle-aged Pelham man on suspicions he sexually assaulted a young girl last spring.

Lt. Gary Fisher said Leonard Bellmore, 54, turned himself in at the police station at noon on Friday, Feb. 21, after police called him to notify him of the warrant, asking him to surrender.

A girl between the ages of 13 and 16 years old reported the alleged assault to police in October 2007, saying it had occurred around March or April 2007, Fisher said.

Police cannot release any details of the incident or about the young girl who made the report, Fisher said.

Bellemore was later released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail. Sexual assault is a Class A misdemeanor.

His arraignment in Salem District Court is scheduled for Monday, March 10, at 8 a.m.
