A bomb squad was called to a vacant Pelham house after a suspicious device was discovered in its kitchen.
Contractors working at the 5 Old Bridge St. South property called police around 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, after they discovered a long cylinder capped on both ends, according to published reports.
A state bomb squad arrived shortly after 10 a.m.
They determined the device was nonexplosive and took it as evidence.
The property is owned by Sun Bridge Professional Center LLC. It was slated to be demolished to make way for new development.
According to published reports, Pelham Police Chief Joseph Roark said there had been some tension between the property owner and an evicted tenant.
Police want to determine if the device was deliberately left behind to cause a scare.
