The job doesn’t pay much. It can require a lot of time. But it’s an opportunity to serve your town.
Want to be a selectman?
Pelham officials are looking for someone to fill the vacancy that will be created by the departure of Tom Domenico, who is moving out of town.
Ed Gleason, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, said he and his colleagues plan to interview applicants during their May 29 meeting and select one for the job on June 12.
Interviews will be held in public.
Domenico’s resignation goes into effect June 15. Gleason anticipates the new selectman will take the oath of office the following day.
That person will serve out Domenico’s term to March 2008.
Selectman Victor Danevich said Domenico’s replacement should be “someone who has a general interest in the town. They have to work with other people. Working with others is a big piece.”
At least three people have applied for the job: Douglas Viger, Cathy Pinette and Anthony Chianci.
Viger, a Budget Committee member, came in third behind winners Bob Haverty and Hal Lynde when five candidates ran for the board last March.
People who are interested in applying should fill out a volunteer application form, Gleason said. The form is available at the town’s Web site, pelhamweb.com.
Domenico, who cited business and personal commitments for stepping down, is moving to North Easton, Mass. He works for the Massachusetts Port Authority.
Domenico was elected to the Board of Selectmen in 2005. He spent a year on the Budget Committee prior to that.
