Cindy Kyzer held onto her Pelham School Board seat after a ballot recount gave her a 46-vote victory.
The recount was requested by Lorraine Dube, who finished closely behind Kyzer in this year’s school board race.
Two seats were open and four candidates ran. On election night, Eleanor Burton was the top vote-getter with 1,390 votes, while Kyzer out-polled Dube 1,100 to 1,055 for the second seat.
The fourth candidate, Angele Diack, drew 739 votes.
Ballots were recounted in Pelham High School on Wednesday, March 21. Dube picked up four votes and Kyzer gained five votes.
The new results were 1,395 for Burton, 1,105 for Kyzer, 1,059 for Dube and 744 for Diack.
“I’m very happy,” Kyzer said after the recount. “I’m very excited about it.”
Kyzer, who watched the recount, said she was not nervous until the numbers were totaled. Kyzer said Dube was gracious when congratulating the two winners.
Both Burton and Kyzer were incumbents seeking reelection. Burton has been on the board since late 2001. Kyzer joined the board three years ago.
Dube and Diack unsuccessfully sought seats on the school board last year.
Dube spent $20 to have the recount.
