Emergency workers rescued a 9-year-old boy who lost control of an all-terrain vehicle he was riding and fell into a ditch in the woods.
Rescue workers, notified of the accident around 3:35 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, were met by a friend of the boy, who led them approximately 200 yards down a trail.
The friend’s father was comforting the boy, who had suffered a broken leg. The accident occurred near the end of Spaulding Hill Road.
The boy was extricated from the ditch by rescue workers using a stretcher and ropes, and transported out of the woods with a four-wheel-drive vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital.
