For the second time in two years, Pelham High School’s assistant principal, Jim Wilhelm, has resigned.
This time, he said, he’s really leaving.
Wilhelm, who joined the school’s staff in 2004, decided to step down last year. But he changed his mind and stayed on after some staff members, school board members and administrators asked him to reconsider.
But Wilhelm said this year is the right time to leave. He’s doing so, he said, with mixed emotions.
“I’ve enjoyed the people I worked with here,” Wilhem said. “It’s a great group of people who work here.”
As assistant principal, Wilhelm is responsible for disciplining students. The work takes its toll and is a factor in his decision to leave, he said.
“It’s very stressful, very demanding,” Wilhelm said.
Wilhelm received college degrees in Indiana and lived in Maine prior to coming to PHS. He said he is unsure of his future plans.
“This is my 34th year in education,” he said. “I may retire or I may stay in education. It depends on what opportunities come up.”
