The first person I met was my guide, Sumiyo Terai, a lovely woman who spent a summer in New Hampshire studying at Dartmouth and lived a year in Boston in the mid-90s. And yes, she's heard of Dice-K. Missed you today, but at 11:30, Jeannie came in followed by a few more of the regular "closers." It just wasn't the same.

Do you know if most of them reside in Japan? Does Russia have the same copies? Does anything remain in Portsmouth?
And what color was the neon ferris wheel?

re: In Tokyo

I have read each of your blogs with interest. Each has a different twist on your journey. When you are all finished with your journey, perhaps you can turn your blogs into another short story.

It looks as thought neck pillow didn't help you sleep. Perhaps the curve of the pillow didn't fit properly. You might be able to bend it to produce a more suitable arch for your trip home!

Sounds exciting. I recall when I went to Tokyo back in November 1990 for business. The marriage of the prince was taking place. I seem to recall the Princess went to school in Boston. Perhaps your hosts can share some background about her. Is the city still as clean as it was back when I was there? You could eat off the streets it was so clean. Was amazed there was no graffiti anywhere - buses, subway, trains and cabs. Have you noticed when the bell goes off in business buildings that everyone is doing exercises? Curves would be proud. Enjoy your time there and am looking forward to additional postings from you!

re: In Tokyo

Glad to hear you arrived safely in Japan!! But how is it possible that it takes an hour for a single rotation? I'm afraid I couldn't do that, dangling near the top for so long. My terror of heights allows me to get that high only in quick snatches, with no time to think about the long fall if a bolt came loose and my car tilted forward precipitously.....

Not a word of complaint about that torturous flight to Asia. Can it be that flying First Class is quite heavenly?!

So glad you're in good hands with Sumiyo Terai.
Love, Nora
