My computer is sick. Where is that rebate check?

Never mind that I spent the last three days frustrated with the entire internet and all of its spyware, viruses, pop-ups, sneaky advertisements and the like. No, I spent the last three days attempting unsuccessfully to remove an infection from my cheap laptop (that I happened to adore). Now I have visions of "your computer is infected" dancing in my head. Thanks, WinReanimator (Warning: do not go to their website or download this software). And many thanks to all of those useless, too-much-time-on-their-hands, (um, is "people" the right word to use here?) that feel compelled to infect the world with their pestilence.

There, I feel better.

Hours and hours and hours of copying files, removing bugs, rebooting and loading my nearly-new (but freshly rebuilt and clean) laptop computer with all of my files and software (and I'm not done yet, folks!) and I still don't have any idea how to remove the darn "malicious trojan spyware". And I tried. I knew there was a problem when my computer rebooted itself for no apparent reason. I knew when that vicious "you are infected" message popped up. And I knew not to "click here" to fix it. No matter, I was infected and there seems to be no cure.

Oh, it was an exciting weekend. I hardly ate or slept. I also melted down, sobbing, and called my genius brother whose advice was, "I had a virus recently that resulted in an entire wipe of my computer." Great. I would wipe my computer but there's only one problem. I don't have a working CD Rom on that charming little laptop that I so adore. Nope, that broke right around the time the warranty expired, naturally.

It appears that I will be using my "Economic Surplus" rebate from the government to actually help stimulate the economy. But only because my computer is broken.
