<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="http://cs.newhampshire.com/utility/FeedStylesheets/rss.xsl" media="screen"?><rss version="2.0" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:slash="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/slash/" xmlns:wfw="http://wellformedweb.org/CommentAPI/"><channel><title>Live Free and Blog : Advertisements</title><link>http://cs.newhampshire.com/blogs/live_free_and_blog/archive/tags/Advertisements/default.aspx</link><description>Tags: Advertisements</description><dc:language>en</dc:language><generator>CommunityServer 2.1 (Build: 60809.935)</generator><item><title>Superbowl ads mostly lackluster</title><link>http://cs.newhampshire.com/blogs/live_free_and_blog/archive/2008/02/04/Superbowl-ads-mostly-lackluster.aspx</link><pubDate>Mon, 04 Feb 2008 21:25:00 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">7b375189-dcc7-4af7-b4d3-2fc751a0220e:6923</guid><dc:creator>NHLife</dc:creator><slash:comments>0</slash:comments><comments>http://cs.newhampshire.com/blogs/live_free_and_blog/comments/6923.aspx</comments><wfw:commentRss>http://cs.newhampshire.com/blogs/live_free_and_blog/commentrss.aspx?PostID=6923</wfw:commentRss><description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Like other New England Patriots fans, I&amp;#39;m feeling a little disappointed this morning.&amp;nbsp; But it&amp;#39;s not the game that I&amp;#39;m disappointed in.&amp;nbsp; I&amp;#39;m still in shock over that!&amp;nbsp; It&amp;#39;s the commercials.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Nothing&amp;nbsp;jumped out.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Bud Light had its usual repertoire of comedy skits.&amp;nbsp; They were mediocre, at best.&amp;nbsp; I was most impressed with the fire breathing date and the man who could fly.&amp;nbsp; This is going to sound funny to some future generation reading about Superbowl&amp;nbsp;XLII and its advertisements.&amp;nbsp; I wonder if they&amp;rsquo;ll even have television in the future. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;But I digress&amp;hellip;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;My favorite commercial was probably the most low-key.&amp;nbsp; It was the talking stain.&amp;nbsp; Let me set the stage for you in case you missed it.&amp;nbsp; A man was sitting at an interview.&amp;nbsp; He was talking to his prospective employer but the stain on his shirt was getting all the attention.&amp;nbsp; Everything he said was muffled by the sound of the stain talking.&amp;nbsp; It was a clever attention-getting ad.&amp;nbsp; And, it was a Tide commercial so it was fitting.&amp;nbsp; It made a lot more sense than some of the other commercials advertisers paid millions of dollars for.&amp;nbsp; And now I&amp;rsquo;m thinking: that person in the future is going to laugh at the thought of an advertisement costing &amp;ldquo;millions of dollars&amp;rdquo;.&amp;nbsp; Sorry person of the future, I&amp;rsquo;m sure that is just chump change to you.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Here is a link to the Talking Stain commercial:&amp;nbsp; &lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmD7joJNE0c"&gt;&lt;font color="#800080"&gt;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmD7joJNE0c&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;I just can&amp;rsquo;t seem to concentrate today.&amp;nbsp; That AMP Energy Drink commercial is seriously disturbing my thought process.&amp;nbsp; I hope I never see&lt;em&gt;&lt;span&gt; that&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt; one again.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;The only other commercials that I thought were remotely amusing were for ETrade.&amp;nbsp; Yes, the talking baby.&amp;nbsp; I guess there is something funny about creatures, babies and&amp;nbsp;random inanimate objects&lt;em&gt;&lt;span&gt; speaking&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt; that make us laugh.&amp;nbsp; I refer to the beloved&amp;nbsp;Geico gecko, of course, which was absent from last night&amp;#39;s fiasco.&amp;nbsp; But also, Bridgestone Tires had an ad featuring a squirrel&lt;em&gt;&lt;span&gt; screaming&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt; (along with other creatures of the night) as a tire screeched toward him.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;We won&amp;rsquo;t even discuss the dancing lizards.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Like I said, nothing jumped out.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;But wait, there&amp;#39;s more.&amp;nbsp; Tide has launched a really cool interactive site, &lt;a href="http://www.mytalkingstain.com/"&gt;http://www.mytalkingstain.com/&lt;/a&gt;.&amp;nbsp; You can upload your own photo and record your voice, and &amp;quot;be the stain&amp;quot;.&amp;nbsp; Genius!
