Like other New England Patriots fans, I'm feeling a little disappointed this morning. But it's not the game that I'm disappointed in. I'm still in shock over that! It's the commercials.
Nothing jumped out.
Bud Light had its usual repertoire of comedy skits. They were mediocre, at best. I was most impressed with the fire breathing date and the man who could fly. This is going to sound funny to some future generation reading about Superbowl XLII and its advertisements. I wonder if they’ll even have television in the future.
But I digress….
My favorite commercial was probably the most low-key. It was the talking stain. Let me set the stage for you in case you missed it. A man was sitting at an interview. He was talking to his prospective employer but the stain on his shirt was getting all the attention. Everything he said was muffled by the sound of the stain talking. It was a clever attention-getting ad. And, it was a Tide commercial so it was fitting. It made a lot more sense than some of the other commercials advertisers paid millions of dollars for. And now I’m thinking: that person in the future is going to laugh at the thought of an advertisement costing “millions of dollars”. Sorry person of the future, I’m sure that is just chump change to you.

I just can’t seem to concentrate today. That AMP Energy Drink commercial is seriously disturbing my thought process. I hope I never see that one again.
The only other commercials that I thought were remotely amusing were for ETrade. Yes, the talking baby. I guess there is something funny about creatures, babies and random inanimate objects speaking that make us laugh. I refer to the beloved Geico gecko, of course, which was absent from last night's fiasco. But also, Bridgestone Tires had an ad featuring a squirrel screaming (along with other creatures of the night) as a tire screeched toward him.
We won’t even discuss the dancing lizards.
Like I said, nothing jumped out.
But wait, there's more. Tide has launched a really cool interactive site, http://www.mytalkingstain.com/. You can upload your own photo and record your voice, and "be the stain". Genius!
