Teacher shuffle

BY KEVIN SHALVEY

Harold Martin School will run only three kindergarten classes for the 2007-08 school year, meaning one of the full-time teachers will be transferred to a first-grade classroom.

“Basically, we ended up moving the full-time teacher into the first grade and we use a part-time teacher for kindergarten,” said SAU 66 Superintendent Brian Blake.

The switch is because of fluctuations in the class sizes each year, said Blake.

“There’s no rhyme or reason to it, but one year we have a big class and the next year we don’t. That’s just the way it is,” said Blake.

During the 2006-07 school year, the school ran two morning and two afternoon kindergarten classes, which required two full-time teachers.

The year before, in the 2005-06 school year, only three classes were run.

But, because there is now two full-time teachers, one had to move, Blake said.

“Out of necessity, you have to do something with the full-time teachers, so they’re moved,” he said.
