The 42 swimmers from the Manchester Swim Team rolled to the Division 3 Granite State Swim Association championship the weekend of Aug. 2 to 3 at the Jenny Thompson Competition Pool in Dover. The Rapids finished with 1,450 points, more than 400 ahead of the second-place RAYS from Londonderry.
MST broke five state championship meet records in the process. Carter Pribis maintained his momentum from the New England Open Championships as a triple winner and record breaker in the 200-meter freestyle and 100- meter backstroke among 13- and 14-year-old males. He also won the 100 free.
Kelsey Ewing’s record-breaking performance in the 13- and 14-year-old 200 free led the MST women to a sweep of the top five spots. Molly Levene was second, followed by Olivia Wons, Vivianne Beribeau and Hayley Berg. Ewing also won the 100 free and 100 back.
Richard Jenkins sprinted to a new record and first place in the 15- and 16-year-old 100 back, while also taking first in the 100 and 200 free events.
Accomplished swimmers in breaststroke, Christina Denbow, 13, and Abigail Mitchell, 15, led the female field with wins in the 13- and 14-year-old and 15- and 16- year-old female 100-meter breaststroke events. Denbow broke a 25-year-old record with a time of 1 minutes, 21.37 seconds. She also won the 200-meter individual medley (IM).
Double winner Katie Aldrich, who recently entered the 15- and 16-year-old group, took the 200 free and 100 back. Maria Colella took second in the 200 free. Aldrich also was second in the 100- meter butterfly, and Katie Donovan was third in that event.
Molly Levene took second behind Ewing in the 100 and 200 free events, and Levene won the 100 fly.
Among 10-and-under swimmers, Zachary Denbow was a double winner, taking first in the 9- and 10-year-old 50 breaststroke and 100 IM.
Jen Gabriel won two freestyle events – the 100 and 200 – among 17- and 18-year-olds.
Lizzie Aldrich was a double winner in the 11- and 12-year-old female division, taking first in the 200 IM and 100 free.
MST racked up seven additional golds: Katie Jenkins in the 8-and-under 25-yard back; Alaina Pribis in the 11- and 12-year-old 200 free; David Delahunty in the 13- and 14-year-old 100 breaststroke; Kyle Deland in the 15- and 16-year-old 100 fly; Matt Goczalk in the 17- and 18-year-old 200 IM; Stephen Masterson in the 15- and 16-year-old 100 breaststroke; and Stephen Muzzey in the 13- and 14- year-old 100 fly.
