Manchester West’s Matt Breault reached the second day of the Class L individual state tournament last weekend, finishing with a two-round total of 163.
Memorial’s Pat Gocklin carded a two-day total of 149, good for seventh place. He fired a one-under-par 71 on day two.
Breault, a Hooksett resident, was ready for a break.
“Overall, I was burnt out throughout the season. Shooting an 80 (on Thursday, Oct. 4) was a huge disappointment. The second day I was really relaxed and didn’t press too much,” he said. “The second day all I was doing was telling jokes and having a fun time.”
Breault carded an 83 on Saturday, Oct. 6, to close out the 2007 golf season.
On one shot, Breault showed some creativity. His ball near a tree on the Canterbury Woods course, the right-hander took a look at the hole, spun around to the left side and advanced the ball out of harm’s way.
It was a shot Breault said he has practiced, and it showcased a strong suit.
“It’s a lot of creativity. That could be a strength of mine also,” said Breault, who is already looking forward to next season. “I’m pretty competitive. I did a lot of summer tournaments, but I’m ready for training hard this winter. I always want to win, and I’ll be ready to put my best foot forward next year.”
