Franco-American Centre's Love and Light Exhibit Continues Through August 31

Love and Light , a collection of luminous pastel paintings by acclaimed painter, José Anne Bernier, continues on display through August 31, 2009 at the Franco-American Centre in Manchester, NH. The Centre is located at 52 Concord St., and is open Monday through Friday, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Ms. Bernier's artistic mission is to captivate the soul behind a veil of illusion; her works celebrate beauty and light. She selects colors that are so soft they seem bathed in a luminous glow. Her unique creations have been displayed from Canada to Sanibel Island and Venice, Florida. Individual pieces grace various private and public collections.

She is currently working on a book featuring about 50 of her art works, with snippets and comments from her personal journal and letters.

Franco-American Centre hosts Annual "La Cave Aux Vins" in Manchester

More than 250 business leaders, supporters, and friends of The Franco-American Centre are expected to attend the organization's 15th Annual “La Cave Aux Vins” (The Wine Cellar) Wine Tasting Event to be held on Friday, July 17th from 6 PM – 8 PM at the Franco-American Centre, located at 52 Concord Street in Manchester. Wines from California, France, and South America will be featured, plus great breads, international cheeses, and delicious hors d'oeuvres. The Jazz Dogs will provide musical entertainment.

Tickets for “La Cave Aux Vins” are on sale at $35 per person, and include the wine tasting, buffet, and entertainment. Limited $100 raffle tickets are available. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Franco American Centre Building Restoration Project, which has a 2009 fund raising goal of $400,000. Constructed in 1910, the Franco-American Center was designated an historic building by the New Hampshire Preservation, and is listed as one of New Hampshire's “seven to save”. “La Cave Aux Vins” attendees will have an opportunity to view the restoration work underway to save the original architecture of this historic building.

The FAC is Searching for the 2009 Franco-American of the Year

The Franco-American Centre is now seeking nominations for the Franco-American of the Year 2009.

Nominees must be of Franco-American descent and must have been involved in the community for several years.

One selected nominee will be honored at the Fête St.Jean-Baptiste; Festival of St. John the Baptist, the national holiday of Québec; observed June 20, 2009, at the Franco-American Centre.

Roger H. Croteau: Artistic Symbols of the Soul

The Franco-American Centre is pleased to welcome back nationally-known local artist Roger H. Croteau, in a solo exhibition of Artistic Symbols of the Soul, at the Beliveau Galérie, November 20, 2008 - January 9, 2009, with an opening exhibition reception from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20 in conjunction with Manchester Open Doors Trolley Tours.

Organized by Franco-American Centre's program coordinator Jacqui Lantagne, in collaboration with Gloria Bouchard and the artist, this exhibition marks Croteau's third appearance at the Beliveau Galérie. Artistic Symbols of the Soul features Croteau's best known work, miniature oil paintings.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Parish priest. Catholic. Counselor. Former prison chaplain. Portrait artist. Artist.

All of the above titles describe Roger Croteau, a signed American artist for the past fifty years. Croteau, who was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, received degrees in psychology and theology from the University of Montreal. In his yearning to clarify the deep mysteries of this life and to cope with the problems of everyday humanity, he has followed a faithful path of synchronicity.

This "unknowing" path has allowed him to experiment with different artistic forms and styles. Presently, Croteau creates tiny miniature oil paintings which are layered and air blown. Sometimes the creations come out the first time. More often than not, though, it takes several attempts in order for the paint to flow into its designed place of light and balance. The originals are created on small panels that measure no more than 2 to 3 inches in height or width. However, unlike what you would expect, when these images are enlarged to make larger prints, we see even more detail and clarity.

Croteau's paintings and sketches grace magazine covers, CD covers, books, private homes, and galleries throughout the world, most especially the Hatfield Gallery in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Franco American Centre Announces Summer Classes Start July 8, 2008

Have you been thinking about learning a second language? Good news, it's not too late to sign up for summer classes at the FAC. Whether you are a parent of a Homeschooler, a world traveler, working in international business or simply looking to better educate yourself, we have a class for you.

Since the summer is a busy time for everyone, we have limited our French class offerings to the courses that have thus far generated the most interest: French Level 1, Level 2, and a children's class. If you are interested in a different level, we offer private tutoring and our entire course selection will resume in thte Fall.
