Creative Nation Music continues the celebration of its Fifth Anniversary with showcase tour of New England

Boston's Creative Nation Music is proud to announce the initial dates of its Creative Nation Music Concert Showcase, a package tour with stops in three New England states, featuring artists from its roster. This series of concerts, happening in February and March, is part of the label's ongoing fifth anniversary celebration, which also includes new releases and the launch of a new series of rare, never-before-released and reissued music called The Hub Collection.

Founded in early 2004 by guitarist/composer Eric Hofbauer, Creative Nation Music specializes in documenting the Boston jazz scene's most distinctive musical personalities. The label will release Garrison Fewell's Variable Density Sound Orchestra (CNM 014) and The Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra's Muse (CNM 015) on February 17th.

About the artists:

Garrison Fewell/Eric Hofbauer Duo
Garrison Fewell and Eric Hofbauer, two of Boston's most respected guitarists, perform duets inspired by the deeper roots of jazz in the music of West Africa, Persia and the Arabic-Islamic world. Using a variety of preparations to their instruments, and references to a wide range of historical and cultural themes, this intergenerational duo juxtaposes ancient traditions with the language and techniques of contemporary improvisation. AllAboutJazz.com's John Sharpe called their March 2008 debut, The Lady of Khartoum (CNM 010), a "richly rewarding disc, resonant of other cultures and other times, yet firmly of its own."

Eric Hofbauer & The Infrared Band
Boston-based guitarist/composer Eric Hofbauer founded The Infrared Band in 2007 after a decade of working as a solo performer, sideman and co-leader of various ensembles. The group performs his original compositions, which explore his intermingling interests in wordplay, mythology and puzzles. Critics have noted the band's "intriguingly original music" (Bill Milkowski, JazzTimes), calling Hofbauer "a refreshingly original voice" (Troy Collins, AllAboutJazz.com) and the band's debut, 2008's Myth Understanding (CNM 011) "rewarding on every level" (Michael Coyle, Cadence).

Garrison Fewell's Variable Density Sound Orchestra
The Variable Density Sound Orchestra is veteran Boston-based guitarist/composer Garrison Fewell's newest working ensemble. As the band’s name implies, its original music, composed and conceived by Fewell, explores a wide range of textures and musical interactions. The 10 tracks on their self-titled February 2009 debut range from completely improvised to original compositions with a stronger framework for individual expression, and take their inspiration from Fewell's longstanding interest in ancient cultures, spirituality and the music of Albert Ayler, Anthony Braxton and Sun Ra.

The Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra
Boston-based composer Ayn Inserto founded her large ensemble in 2001 after receiving her Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies and Composition from New England Conservatory. The group has since performed at venues such as The Berklee Performance Center and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, and collaborated with jazz greats Bob Brookmeyer, George Garzone, Joe Lovano and Frank Tiberi. On the band's second recording, February 2009's Muse (CNM 015), which is built around the theme of celebrating those who inspired her, Ms. Inserto pays homage to influences ranging from her family, friends and bandmates to former teachers (Brookmeyer, Dave Eshelman and John Maltester) to eminent jazz musicians (Michael Brecker, Frank Foster and Steve Lacy).

New Hampshire History Society hosts the Seacoast Wind Ensemble July 11 at Eagle Square

CONCORD, NH—The New Hampshire Historical Society will host the Seacoast Wind Ensemble in a free outdoor concert on Friday, July 11, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., in downtown Concord's Eagle Square, just outside the Historical Society's museum.

The concert is made possible by the Duncan S. McGowan Memorial Fund for Eagle Square, the Walker Fund, Merrimack County Savings Bank, and Daddy's Junky Music Store.

The Seacoast Wind Ensemble includes more than 40 adults performing on bassoon, clarinet, euphonium, flute, French horn, harp, oboe, percussion, piccolo, saxophone, trombone, trumpet and tuba. The ensemble performs marches, show tunes, jazz, classical/symphonic adaptations for band, Broadway and modern pop-style tunes, all suitable for the whole family.

In case of rain, the concert will be moved indoors to the adjacent Atrium at 7 Eagle Square. Attendees should bring their own chairs for the indoor concert.
