From instrument lessons to Poetry Readings to Holiday celebrations, the Teen Center is working overtime to provide it all.

First up, Club Cannon has teamed up with Franklin Pierce University's Community Outreach program to offer guitar lessons to area youth, free of
charge. Each week throughout the semester, Garrett Gaudette (a Music Education Major from FPU) will be at the Peterborough Teen Center giving
free guitar lessons to those who sign up.

"We're so proud of this program," said John Sefel, Club Cannon Coordinator. "As many people know, lessons are going for over $20 an hour nowadays.
Happily, we were able to partner with FPU in our believe that music shouldn't be limited to just those that can pay for it." All Teens (age 12 -
16) are welcome to sign up for beginning and intermediate lessons, but time is running out. November 7th is the last day to sign up for this program,
and advanced registration is required for participation. Those interested should contact John Sefel at john@cpcnh.org.

Guitar not your thing? In a festive mood? On Saturday, November 1st, Club Cannon will be presenting a special "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead)
Family Celebration, in collaboration with the Mariposa Museum and FPU. Starting at 4pm, kids and their parents will be welcome to join us on a tour
of the Mariposa Museum's famed Day of the Dead displays and exhibits. Afterward, it's back to Club Cannon for an evening of food, music, and fun!
From making sugar skulls to learning about how our closest neighbor to the south honors their loved ones, it's a great educational experience for the
entire family. The Mariposa Museum portion of the evening is $5 for adults, $3 for children, and the party is free! Pre-registration strongly
encouraged -- those interested should contact John Sefel at john@cpcnh.org.

On Friday, November 7th, Club Cannon will bring back their popular Poetry, Music & Art Night from 6pm - 8:30pm. People of all ages and experience
levels are welcome to come and take part in this culturally exciting event. The evening will feature open mic time, as well as several guest artists
from the region. At the last P.M.A. Night, the hall was filled with readers aged 12 to 73, and experience levels from "first-time" to local college
professors. Artists, poets, and musicians are all extremely welcome. To register or for more details, contact John Sefel at john@cpcnh.org.

Then, on Saturday, November 22nd, Club Cannon will be hosting their first "Homecoming Concert." Bands from Club Cannon past and present will perform,
making this a must see, all ages event!

"And that's not all!" Sefel said, excitedly. "We've got so much going on here! There's student-run theatre, musical instruments set up for community
use, and we're always looking for artwork by local teens to display. The arts are a great way for teens to express themselves and find their own
unique voice -- and whether that's through poetry, theatre, painting, or playing music, we want to provide that expression a venue!"

Club Cannon and its programs are sponsored and provided by Creating Positive Change, a community-based coalition of people and organizations
working together to address substance abuse and the problems associated with it. CPC is both a catalyst and conduit for activities, information and
advocacy that promote and support healthy choices around the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) in the communities of eastern Cheshire and western Hillsborough Counties in New Hampshire. With the support of CPC, Club Cannon is able to provide alternative, enriching activities in an
attempt to battle that age-old teenage complaint, "There's Nothing To Do."

For more information about CPC, Club Cannon, or any of these events, visit http://www.cpcnh.org, or email Club Cannon coordinator John Sefel at
john@cpcnh.org.

Opening Doors to Teens and Families with Acting, Music, Dance, and Foosball!

In celebration of Peterborough’s October First Friday Celebrations, Club Cannon is throwing open its doors and welcoming the entire community to visit their historic
building, nosh on munchies, and find out about this hidden “treasure on the hill.”

The evening invites residents from around the region to “drop in” at their location anytime between 6pm and 8:30pm on Friday, October 3rd. He comes prepared with a background in facility and non-profit management, teen outreach, and theatre and music promotion and management.

"I'm thrilled to be coming aboard," said Sefel, "we have a great program here. My job will be to keep the successes going, and to make sure that everyone in the community knows we're here and sees us as the resource that we are!" Sefel also serves as the Artistic Director of Ghostlight Theater Co. of New England, is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, and is an Adjunct Faculty Member at Chester College of New England.

Looking at Club Cannon's event calendar, it seems he's wasted no time in putting his background in the arts to work. The fall's first event will be a Poetry, Music and Art night on September 5th, to coincide with the Chamber of Commerce's First Friday Celebrations. "We'll be following this with a back-to-school rock concert on Saturday, September 20th, featuring some of the best local high school bands playing for an audience of their peers." Sefel says he plans to follow these events up with a Middle School Dance, a Halloween Rock Concert, movie nights, more poetry nights, and dozens of other events as the season goes on.

"We're open to anything," he said. "We're here to be a safe, welcoming, drug-and-alcohol free zone, where teens and the community can connect and be
just be themselves. If someone suggests an event that lives up to that mission, then we're all ears!"

In addition to Sefel's arrival and the new and revitalized programming, Club Cannon is starting the new year with some new and repaired equipment as well. C.I.M. Industries recently donated three used computers to the teen center, greatly updating their computer lab capabilities, and so offering far more resources to teens for homework, games, and socializing. One local volunteer is providing free technical support to the organization to upgrade their phone and internet systems, while another has offered to help re-plan, replace, and rebuild the center's sound system. Meanwhile, Sefel has worked to repair an old foosball table and to revitalize other games within the center.

"Now, if we could just find a volunteer to fix or replace our air hockey table" Sefel hinted.

In addition to their various events, Club Cannon operates teen "drop-in" hours on Tuesday - Thursday from 2:30 - 6pm, and on Friday and Saturdays from 2:30 until 10pm, where all area teens are welcome to come in and enjoy a safe, welcoming drug and alcohol free zone. Parents or teens interested in Club Cannon can call John Sefel at 603-924-5718, email him at john@cpcnh.org, or visit the Club Cannon web page at cpcnh.org. Teens, bands, and volunteers are always welcome and needed.

Club Cannon is the Teen Center wing of Creating Positive Change (CPC), a community-based coalition of people and organizations working together to address substance abuse, and the problems associated with it. CPC is both a catalyst and conduit for activities, information and advocacy that promote and support healthy choices around the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in the communities of eastern Cheshire and western Hillsborough Counties in New Hampshire. Club Cannon serves teens from the towns of Antrim, Bennington, Dublin, Francestown, Greenfield, Greenville, Hancock, Jaffrey, Mason, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Rindge, Sharon and Temple, and hosts events for various ages throughout the year, including the extremely popular annual Monadnock Battle of the Bands competition. Club Cannon is located in the GAR Building at 40 Grove Street, in downtown Peterborough, NH.
