The Little Prince talks to everyone he meets: a garden of roses, the Snake and a Fox who wishes to be tamed. From each he gains a unique insight which he shares with the Aviator: In the end both the "little man" and the Aviator must go home each with a new understanding of how to laugh, cry, and love again.

A staple of every child's library, The Little Prince has been translated into more than 180 languages and has sold more than 80 million copies making it one of the bestselling books ever. It has been adapted into a movie musical by Lerner and Loewe, two different operas, as well as into an animated series.

The Kids' Acting Loft is the educational wing of The Acting Loft Academy of Performing Arts. A graduate of Oberlin College and NYU, where she received an MFA in acting, Cabell has also appeared in other regional and Off-Broadway productions.

But the big break for this local actor may come on September 12, when she will appear in A Man For All Seasons on Broadway, produced by the Roundabout Theatre. Cabell will play the daughter of Sir Thomas More, famously beheaded by Henry VIII for refusing to acknowledge him as the head of the Church of England. Thomas More will be played by Frank Langella, well-known for his portrayal of Dracula on Broadway, as well as numerous film roles including Perry White in the recent Superman Returns and Richard Nixon in the upcoming film Frost/Nixon (for which he won a Tony Award for the Broadway version). Tony Award winner Maryann Plunkett will play More's wife Alice and Cabell will play their daughter Margaret.

What's it like for a young actor to make her Broadway debut? "I am very excited and very nervous," says Cabell. "Of course I want to do my best, and serve this amazing play as best I can." The production will take place at the American Airlines Theatre on 42nd Street, a historic theatre formerly known as the Selwyn Theatre. "I'm looking forward to the whole experience of playing to a Broadway house," says Cabell. "The theater is enormous and beautiful, and I'm excited to feel the history that lives in that stage. And of course I'm looking forward to working with very seasoned and talented actors like Frank Langella and Maryann Plunkett."

Doing a show—especially a well-publicized, "big" show in NY--is different from doing a show at The Barnstormers, or any regional theater, according to Cabell. "You have the pressure of the critics--professional and non-professional--and the crazy pace of the city," she says. Of course, the Barnstormers Theatre has its own pressures, as it is perhaps the last theatre in the country to be doing summer stock in the traditional manner, eight plays in eight weeks. "Although the pace of putting up a show here is certainly crazy, there is an ease to it as well," says Cabell. "There is such a sense of company at this theater, and support from the audience. It is a very special place."

When asked what part The Barnstormers played in her decision to become an actor, Cabell says, "The Barnstormers was probably the place that determined my being an actor." Her father has been an actor at The Barnstormers for over 30 years, so "I was a Barnstormers baby," she says. "Some of my earliest memories are of playing in the green room and sitting in the house watching rehearsals with Francis Cleveland." Cleveland, who was the youngest son of President Grover Cleveland, founded the theatre with his wife Alice Cleveland and friend Ed Goodnow back in 1931, making it the oldest professional summer stock theatre in the country.

Though she'll be heading off to Broadway soon, for now Cabell says, "I am just so happy and thankful to be back at The Barnstormers. I always feel that I'm learning when I do a show here. There is so much talent and dedication in this small New Hampshire summer theater, it's really quite amazing."

The Barnstormers Theatre is currently engaged in a $1.3 million comprehensive campaign which has already raised over $550,000 and will enable the theatre's transition into a regional arts center. Thanks to the generosity of The Tamworth Foundation, new donations will be matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis, up to $250,000. Ionesco wrote this intelligent comedy of the absurd after he observed the lack of opposition to the *** in his beloved Paris.

"I really wanted to present this play with our teen actors," said John Sefel, Producing Artistic Director of the Acting Loft. "Who understands dealing with peer pressure and being self-conscious better than teenagers? It was a great way to introduce an important piece of dramatic literature and history in a way that modern teens could easily relate to."

Phillip Allen, the play's director, chimed in. "Why do I love this play? A bunch of local teens using elements of puppetry and early 20th century technique to tell an abstract story of individuality, all the while creating an atmosphere of Picasso-meets-Pink Floyd ... what's NOT to love?"

The show is being presented as part of the Manchester Franco-American's year-long celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the founding of Quebec, and is sponsored in part by David Goodman and the D.J.L.Goodman Family. The play goes up March 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th at 7:30 pm, with matinees on March 9th and 16th at 2pm. All performances will be held at the Acting Loft, 516 Pine Street, Manchester, NH. Tickets are only $10 for adults, $5 for students, and are available at the door or in advance at http://www.actingloft.org.

Thirty-seven Plays, three actors and one inflatable Godzilla!

The Acting Loft Academy of Performing Arts, Manchester's Educational Theatre is proud to announce their upcoming production of "THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED)." This frantic, frenetic, and fabulously funny comedy will take over the Acting Loft stage February 8th, 9th, and 10th, before a tour to local schools. The production and subsequent tour has been generously sponsored by Granite State Management & Resources/the NHHEAF Network Organizations.
THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) is the award-winning, international hit originally staged by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. In it, three well-meaning (if slightly confused) thespians attempt to perform all 37 of Shakespeare's plays in just under two hours. The resulting insanity is best described as the Three Stooges, the Marx Bros., and Bugs Bunny combined, with a slice of lemon on the side. From a hip-hop rendition of Othello to the Hammiest Hamlet ever staged, the show careens at breakneck speed through all 37 plays (and the sonnets!) until no one will be able to look at the Bard quite the same ever again.

"This is simply my favorite comedy ... ever" said Toby Paul, one of the actors in the production . "There's no reason for anyone to be afraid of this show. Yeah, it's based on Shakespeare - but really, with the amount of pop culture references and silly slapstick, it really doesn't matter whether you know Hamlet from a Ham Sandwich, as long as you can appreciate a good Jamie Lynn Spears joke."

"Irreverent doesn't even begin to describe this show," added Dylan Gamblin, the another actor in the show. "There's nothing that doesn't get mocked here ... from Shakespeare to Politics to Pop Culture, we leave nothing untouched. Whether an audience member is an English Professor or a bored thirteen year old, we'll leave 'em laughing!"

"Yeah, and you get to see me in a dress!" added the third member of the company, Steven "Dingo" Ihde. He then began brushing his facial hair while singing "I Feel Pretty."

After the run at the Acting Loft the show will hit the road, touring to regional Middle and High Schools as a special "in-school" field trip program, sponsored by the NHHEAF Network Organizations (The New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation). The cast will kick off their tour with stops in Manchester at McCloughlin Middle School and Manchester West High School. Other schools are encouraged to contact the Acting Loft at 603-666-5999 to find out how to book the show for their school.

"This is the perfect arrangement for schools," John Sefel, Acting Loft Artistic Director assured us. "The school gets the benefits of a field trip with none of the costs or liabilities - we bring in a show that can be tailored to a school's needs, and - in under two hours - we're able to introduce their students to the entire Shakespeare cannon in a way that's fun, edgy, and memorable!"

Toby Paul, Dylan Gamblin, and Steven "Dingo" Ihde star in this fast-paced, no-holds-barred look at the works of William Shakespeare. The show will be performed Friday and Saturday, February 8th and 9th at 7:30pm, with a matinee at 2pm on the 10th. Tickets are only $10 for adults, $5 for students, and may be purchased online at www.actingloft.org or at the door the day of the show. All performances will take place at the Acting Loft theatre at 516 Pine Street, Manchester, NH, before launching the tour, which will be available for school productions through May, 2008.

The Acting Loft announces 2008 spring theatre classes

The Acting Loft - Academy of Performing Arts is pleased to announce their 2008 spring theatre class schedule, and invite prospective students to attend their upcoming Open House.

"We're gearing up for a busy spring!" said Alex Basbas, Acting Loft's Director of Education. "We've lined up a ton of great singing, dancing and acting classes, ranging from beginning classes for children as young as five to advanced classes for adults.
