Seacoast's third Pecha Kucha Night announces speaker line up

Calypso Communications, a full-service marketing, public relations, and graphic design firm, announced today the roster of presenters set to speak at the state’s third Pecha Kucha event, scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2009. The presentations are set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Third Floor nightclub of the Portsmouth Gas Light Co., the Seacoast’s largest nightclub. Presenters will speak on a variety of topics ranging from racism and multimedia animation to self-realization and ghost hunting, each within Pecha Kucha’s signature six minute and 40 second time frame.

Mike Teixeira, creative director for Calypso Communications (www.calypsocom.com) and Jamila Taylor, of Latona Associates, have teamed-up to bring the internationally-acclaimed presentation and networking event to the community (http://www.pecha-kucha.org/cities/portsmouth-nh). Eight unique speakers have been chosen to present the topic of their choice, some of whom include:

AJ Kitt is the founder and point man for the Kitt Research Initiative, an organization dedicated to the discovery and exploration of all aspects of spontaneous manifestations of forces as yet unrecognized by science. Kitt lectures on “ghost hunting” throughout New England while also working as a self-employed artist, regional sales representative for an internationally distributed kayak manufacturer, and published author of both fiction and non-fiction literary works.

Marc Dole, founder of Hatchling Studios, began his career in the late 1980’s as a commercial and documentary director and editor. Switching his focus to multimedia and computer animation in the early 1990’s, Marc has worked with local and national clients and advertising agencies to provide animation and special effects for film and television. He recently won a best director award for his 48 Hour Film Project short Tweet and is currently editing a short for Left Bank Films entitled Crooked Lane.

Founder of the Institute for Personal Development, Inc., Kenneth Toy is an independent scholar who holds the title of Swami in the Kriya Yoga lineage and is also a Certified Professional Astrologer. He has lived, practiced, and taught the mystical sciences for over 32 years. As a Steamfitter of Local 638 in NYC, he developed the Transformational Lifestyle Program on the subways of NYC, where he figured out the mystery of life and applied his theories.

Founder, curator, and CEO of the Portsmouth Museum of Fine Arts, Ruthie Tredwell established the Tredwell Foundation for Visual Arts with the mission to provide education and leadership in the fine arts, literary arts, art history, design, and art education and to promote the advancement of American contemporary art.

Tommy Tiberia has practiced organizational psychology, development, and training in both the corporate and not-for-profit industries for over 15 years. His highly interactive and energetic style motivates participants to shift their perspectives and learn new ways of achieving success. Tiberia is currently working on and up and coming project tentatively titled Innocently Becoming Racist.

International Pecha Kucha guidelines allow speakers 20 slides with 20 seconds of commentary per slide, a brief six minutes and 40 seconds of presentation time, streamlining presentations and piquing audience interest. There are no restrictions to topics as long as these guidelines are followed.

Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, of Klein Dytham Architecture in Tokyo, Japan, created the event in 2003 as a platform for young designers to meet, network, and display their work publicly. Pecha Kucha’s unique format encourages conversation in an informal atmosphere and unites the business and creative worlds on the basis of education and knowledge-sharing, establishing a relationship that mutually benefits professionals across a variety of industries.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring New Hampshire Pecha Kucha followers a third event so soon after the success of our second and with a very engaging and provocative line-up of speakers,” said Teixeira.  “The sophisticated metro vibe of the Third Floor nightclub makes for a perfect venue for PK #3, setting the stage for our unique mix of presenters, and offering optimal opportunities for interaction and networking.”

The event is free and open to the general public. While the presentations begin at 7 p.m., guests are welcome to enjoy networking on The Deck, Portsmouth’s largest courtyard venue, from 5 to 7 p.m., where drink and appetizer specials will be available until 6 p.m. Though the specials will conclude at 6 p.m., food and drinks will be available at regular prices. No food will be available in the Third Floor nightclub. Those interested in more information or presenting at future events should contact Mike Teixeira at 603-431-0816 or visit http://www.pecha-kucha.org/cities/portsmouth-nh.
