For several weeks, drivers on Route 1 in Portsmouth, in the area around Water Country, have puzzled over it: that yellow sign with the moose profile plus the words “Future Home” and “Moose Ahead”… and nothing more. Future home of what? “We’ve heard everything from a new restaurant to a new sporting goods store, but the truth is, it’s just us,” says John Pratt, Senior Vice President/Seacoast Region Manager of First Colebrook Bank.
Headquartered in Colebrook, in the far northern region of New Hampshire, First Colebrook Bank is preparing to open a new, full-service branch on Route 1 in Portsmouth. The New Hampshire-owned, community bank has been serving the banking needs of individuals and small business in New Hampshire for 120 years. “At First Colebrook Bank, we can trace our roots to the Great North Woods of the late 19th century, deep in the heart of moose country, and today we still serve the timber and tourism industries as well as area families. People even call us the “Moose Bank”. But in recent years, we’ve expanded to Concord, Amherst, and now Portsmouth… all areas where we found a strong, local business community and the need for a local, full-service, community bank.”
First Colebrook Bank purchased a former bank property at 2400 Lafayette Road (Route 1), near the Southgate Plaza and next to Water Country; an opening is planned for early September. Pratt and Vice President Commercial Loans Bob Davis, both very well known in the area, and Branch Manager Ben Wheeler will lead operations. Adds Pratt, “We think that these days, more than ever, many people prefer a local, New Hampshire bank that provides the personalized service and financial products that meet their needs.”
