CONCORD, NH – On Friday, May 9th at 7 pm, the Concord High School (CHS) Music Department will join with the Concord Community Music School (CCMS) to present a memorial concert at Concord High School honoring the musical legacy of Richard J. Gagliuso, a long-time music educator in the Concord schools.
For 33 years, Mr. Gagliuso provided music instruction to generations of Concord students as director of the band, choir and orchestra in Concord public schools, in addition to teaching many other students through private instruction. He operated a summer music school at the West Street Ward House for many years as well. It was in this setting that hundreds of young people had their first contact with music, establishing a love of singing or a solid start on an instrument.
To honor Mr. Gagliuso’s memory and to celebrate his remarkable legacy, the May 9th concert will include students from both Concord High School as well as from the Concord Community Music School, where the Gagliuso family wishes to continue his lifelong values by establishing the Richard J. Gagliuso Violin Scholarship. His family is pleased that his memory will be honored in a way that combines two of the great loves of his life: music and young people. “We are looking forward to celebrating his contributions to the community with many former students, friends and colleagues,” his son, Richard C. Gagliuso, shared with Peggy Senter, president of the Music School.
The concert will include performances by the CHS Chamber Orchestra, the CCMS Scholarship String Quartet, CCMS violin and piano soloists, and the CHS Chamber Singers. Some of the works on the program are the Vivaldi Concerto for two cellos, a Bach Concerto for two violins, and Massenet’s Meditation from Thais. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations to the Richard J. Gagliuso Violin Scholarship are most welcome.
