CONCORD, NH – The Concord Community Music School’s Voice Department invites the public to take part in its annual series of workshops on vocal technique and performance, April 8 and 10. All sessions are free, open to the public, and designed to reach all ages and levels of singers. All workshops take place at the Concord Community Music School at 23 Wall Street in downtown Concord.
The workshops cover a variety of topics including the jaw condition TMJD and other singer-related maladies, offered by Ellen Nordstrom Baer (who also will be performing on April 10 at the Music School’s Bach’s Lunch Concert); the International Phonetic Alphabet as used by singers, led by Andrea Veal; as well as more experiential offerings: A Sampling of Songweavers – a chance to learn songs by rote; and A Sampling of Vibrant Voice, an overview of the Vibrant Voice Workshop being offered April 11 – 13 at the Music School. Mark Andrew Cleveland (performing on April 4 at a Musicians of Wall Street Concert) will offer an exploration of the classical folk song as a vehicle to technical and artistic expression. In addition, Emily Jaworski (performing April 6 in a free afternoon voice recital) will present “Words,Words,Words,” focusing on the ways in which a singer can deliver the text of a song so as to add depth and interest to a performance.
Workshop Weeks, free and open to the public, are held throughout the year by the Music School’s faculty. The String Department will hold a workshop series May 5 - 8. Call the Music School for more information, 603-228-1196, or visit the website www.ccmusicschool.org.
