The Women's Business Center is unveiling a new course for professionals in the beauty industry who are currently, or will soon be, salon owners. "The Owner's Series: The Business of Beauty" course will inform beauty professionals about the legal considerations of owning a business, such as licensing, trademarks, and business insurance. The course will also provide information on the steps for setting up a business including developing a business plan and registering a business. This course is part of the Women's Business Center's core programming and is the first course in "The Owner's Series."
The Women's Business Center is exploring uncharted territory with its industry- specific enterprise development education for primarily women-owned businesses. "It is imperative that the Women's Business Center continue to address its members' needs by creating curriculum. The Owner's Series provide us with an incredible opportunity to provide core curriculum on how to start a business, market your business, and finance your business," states Sharon Drake, Executive Director, Women's Business Center. "It also provides training on the human behavioral side of business ownership, specific to a particular industry – such as our new Business of Beauty course. We are excited to launch this program!" she continues.
According to the New Hampshire Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, and Esthetics there are approximately over 2000 licensed beauty salons in New Hampshire.
"The Business of Beauty" will begin on Monday February 25, from 9 to 11:30 am., at the Amoskeag Business Incubator in Manchester. It is a six consecutive week course, and costs $350 including course materials and a Women's Business Center membership. Pre-registration is required.
The course instructor Janine Parsons of Radical Results, a business-coaching firm, will also provide participants with an overview of accounting basics, marketing strategies, how to form supplier relationships, and other important tools for improving or starting their businesses. At the end of the course, participants will have developed a business plan.
The New Hampshire Cosmetology Association endorses the "The Business of Beauty" course. Pam New, President, New Hampshire Cosmetology Association, states, "Although our Cosmetology Schools provide our licensees a very thorough knowledge of the Beauty Business, there are many aspects of our industry that cannot be addressed within the 1500 hours of required training."
This is the first course being offered in the Owner's Series. Additional courses will focus on the businesses of childcare, the arts, and food service.
