Give the Gift of Life This Valentine's Day in Manchester

Have A Heart This Valentine’s Day…Join Saturn of Manchester and Saturn of Nashua for the 11th Annual Saturn National Donor Day!

Manchester, New Hampshire – January 2008: This Valentine’s Day, instead of giving flowers and chocolates, why not give the gift of life.  Saturn of Manchester and Saturn of Nashua will be celebrating the 11th Annual Saturn National Donor Day with the American Red Cross on February 14th from 11am until 6pm at the American Red Cross Donor Center at 425 Reservoir Avenue in Manchester.

Donors are encouraged to join Saturn for this festive occasion.  In addition to being treated to Valentine’s Day sweets, all donors will receive a Saturn goodie bag and a chance to win raffle prizes.

Since 1998, Saturn retailers have volunteered to hold more than 1900 blood, marrow, organ, and tissue donor drives, on or around Valentine’s Day for Saturn National Donor Day.  Nationwide, Saturn has collected over 226,000 units of blood and this year will cross the 250,000 mark.

“We believe that Saturn National Donor Day is one of the largest annual lifesaving donation drives in the United States,” noted Mike Silverman, General Manager of Saturn of Manchester and Saturn of Nashua.  “We’re proud to be part of such a premier community service project and to continue our partnership with the American Red Cross.”

Saturn National Donor Day is just part of Saturn of Manchester and Saturn of Nashua’s ongoing commitment with the America Red Cross.  The dealerships have hosted successful winter drives in the past few years and are also sponsors for Nashua’s annual “Chill and Grill” Super Drive which collects over 500 pints each summer.

“Community service is such an integral part of Saturn’s philosophy,” continued Silverman.  “Knowing that blood supplies are critically low in the winter, Saturn is excited to team up with the American Red Cross once again to help ease this situation.”

Winter weather conditions often affect blood drive attendance and, ultimately, blood inventories at local hospitals. John Peterson of the New Hampshire Red Cross urges other businesses to follow Saturn’s lead.  “It’s great when a company gets behind one of the drives.  What a wonderful way to show other sponsors how to help out their communities and to keep the blood supply in tact during these tough winter months.”

Every day blood is needed in hospitals and emergency rooms for patients with cancer and other diseases, organ transplants, and for saving the lives of accident victims.  The single unit of blood that one person donates has the potential to help up to three different individuals.

More About Saturn National Donor Day:

Blood transfusions save approximately 10,000 Americans every day. A Saturn Retailer's 2008 Donor Day drive will likely collect the 250,000th unit of blood since Saturn started hosting this annual event. Donation helps save lives and each dealership should be proud of their efforts, ever mindful that the need for lifesaving donation continues.

Saturn has a long-standing reputation of putting people first, and they want to continue that tradition. Taking an active role in their community with programs like Donor Day can help consumers understand that Saturn really does have a genuine interest in improving the world in which they live. Giving back now could foster a positive perception of Saturn and their individual Retail facility and, in turn, potentially generate even more business for the dealerships in the future.
