CPR brings new life to church

BY SARAH LEBRUN

If you’ve passed by Goffstown Christian Fellowship on any given Tuesday or Thursday night in the last few months, you may have heard some rock and roll music coming from within the sanctuary.

The music is the stylings of CPR, or Christ Power Revival, a relatively new local Christian rock band. According to band members, the group has been together since January.

“This was something God put in my heart awhile ago,” said Tim Ogle, rhythm guitarist, who organized the group. “(Forming the band) was about getting back to what church was meant to be about. We want to stir things up in the church and get the church excited.”

“It’s not really a band, it’s more of a ministry,” said Sonny Kingsbury, the band’s lead vocalist.

According to Ogle, CPR ministries was called together to light a fire in the heart of the church again, and demonstrate to the outside world that the church can be an exciting and welcoming place.

“We’re not up there singing hymns,” said Kingsbury.

CPR gave its first concert on Jan. 10 at the Power Station in the Colony Mill Marketplace in Keene.

According to Ogle, all areas surrounding the stage, including the balcony above, were packed.

During February school vacation, CPR hosted a teen concert at Goffstown Christian Fellowship, inviting youth from 26 churches of various denominations to the event.

Approximately 100 people attended.

“It was completely packed,” said Ogle. “There was no room for anyone to move.”

The group hopes to host another teen concert soon. The music that CPR plays is a mix of their own music and covers from other groups. The composers in the group are Ogle and Sell. CPR also recently recorded three songs in its first demo.

Other band members include Alicia Sell on keyboard, David Duarte on bass guitar, Mark Dyer on lead guitar and Eric Carvill on drums.

“We all wanted to serve in a minstry that was able to reach out to people all over the place,” said Sell.

The ministry will sponsor a fundraiser breakfast the Odd Fellows Lodge on Mountain Road in Goffstown on Sunday, April 5, from 8 to 11 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, coffee, juice and milk.

Cost is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for children 4 to 12. All proceeds will go to the ministry to upgrade their equipment.

Thank you very much Sarah and The Neighborhood News team. We were blessed to have you at our practice on the 24th and we look forward to working with you again. If your words spark a fire in even one heart then it makes it all worth it.
