Goffstown golfers ready to compete with Class L’s finest, says coach

BY RYAN O’CONNOR

Jarrod Brooks has spent the last five years building a perennial golf contender at GHS. Next season, he said, the team has a chance to be just that in Class L.

“This year we had a lot of people moving up from JV and a couple seniors who played varsity golf, but overall we had a very inexperienced team,” said Brooks. “We did very well finishing the year with 10 wins, which exceeded my expectations.”

Though the Grizzlies graduate four seniors – Bradford Cannon, Andrew Morris, Kory Mount and Joseph Pratte – Brooks said a solid core of current juniors and one sophomore return with a year of varsity experience.

Juniors Steven French and Evan O’Brien represented GHS at the Class L tournament on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Campbell’s Scottish Highlands in Salem.

French finished the day with an 83, and O’Brien posted a 90. Others expected to contribute for the Grizzlies next season include juniors Michael Dorow and Tyler Turcotte and sophomore Greg Van Horn.

“I definitely hope to improve on our record, and I expect to make (the tournament) as a team, especially because this particular group seems very dedicated to improving their game,” said Brooks.

“They want to play competitive golf during the summer, and that’s what it really takes, not just coming out here for the short season, but getting out there in the spring and summer, too.”
