He knows how good they can be. He sees it every game. But the wins have yet to pile up for Dave Moloney and his Goffstown boys lacrosse team – a fact the former St. Anselm coach admits has frustrated him at times this season.
Take the Grizzlies’ 9-8 loss to defending state runner-up
Bow on Thursday, May 1.
With seven minutes remaining in the contest, they led by three goals.
With one minute remaining, they clung to a one-goal advantage.
They lost in overtime It’s at moments like that, however, that Moloney said he takes a step back and remembers his squad is in its second year as a varsity unit.
“We’re just trying to put it together at the end. That’s the story this year – playing hard and staying in games … but it’s just learning to win, and that’s part of growing as a program,” said Moloney. “All you can do is go back to practice the next day and work on the things you know will make you better.”
The Grizzlies currently have a 2-5 record, including a 13-0 triumph at Spaulding and a 11-3 win against Lebanon. Three times they have lost by one goal, and their largest margin of defeat came in a 10- 7 home loss on Saturday, May 3, to Winnacunnet.
“We’re there. We’re giving everybody games. We just need to get over this hump, and if we do, I think we’ll be in very good shape,” said Moloney, who noted if his team can win can win six or seven games, it’s likely to reach the playoffs.
“We can do some damage there, and I think if we get there, people will be afraid of us, especially if we have some momentum by beating some tough teams down the stretch.”
