GHS boys lead locals down the mountains

The Goffstown High School boys Alpine ski team beat four schools in team competition on Jan. 10 at Cranmore in North Conway, led by the one-two punch of Milos Bohonek and Thomas Joy.

Among 70 entrants, Bohonek and Joy finished first and second, respectively, in both the giant slalom (GS) and slalom events as the Grizzlies defeated Exeter, Dover, Timberlane and Spaulding.

Brendan Bertagnoll took fourth on the slalom course and seventh on GS, while Ben St. Amand was fifth on GS.

Joe Pratte posted a pair of sixth-place efforts for Goffstown, while T.J. Thomas was eighth on the giant slalom course.

The Goffstown girls placed fourth on the giant slalom course and fifth in slalom. Among GS competitors, Julie Clark finished in third place.

John Stark, Hopkinton results

At Crotched Mountain on Thursday, Jan. 17, Hopkinton’s girls finished third and John Stark’s girls were fourth among seven teams competing in slalom.

Hopkinton’s Elise Ewing cracked the top 10 in eighth place, while Hallie Loft was 11th, and Kristen Murphy took 14th. Hannah Gesen also scored for the Hawks.

Tyler Ann Mack, Julianne Power, Becca MacKensie and Olivia Wheat competed as well.

John Stark’s Candace Hubner-Raley took 18th to lead the Lady Generals. Sarah Ray and Chelsea Guinard were 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Sarah Nieman rounded out the JS scorecard in 28th.

Other Stark racers were Catie Stone and Kristie Stone.

The John Stark boys took fourth among eight teams in slalom competition, with Hopkinton in sixth place.

Nathan Goldsberry, Patrick Luk and Zach Greaney finished 20th through 22nd, respectively, for Stark’s consistent team. Jack Brown, in 37th, also scored for the Generals.

Sam Harris and Greg Franciscovich also completed both runs for JS.

Hopkinton’s Duncan Sweny took 10th individually to lead the Hawks. Joe Merrow and Jake Lessels also competed for HHS, which finished with 257 points among just three skiers.
