A longtime public servant was lost when Bruce Hunter, 74, died Sunday, Sept. 23, following a lengthy illness.
An active member of the Goffstown community, Hunter served the town in many capacities, including as a three-term member of the Board of Selectman and Town Planning Board. He also served as a state representative for more than 18 years. He was a resident of Goffstown since 1983.
“Bruce was a good natured and dedicated selectman and state representative,” said Town Administrator Sue Desruisseaux.
“He was always so appreciative of the work and efforts of town employees. He will be missed by all.”
He was also a veteran of the United States Navy. Hunter had been employed for many years as a Boston ambulance driver and retired in 1983 after working with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.
“Bruce really loved his time as a selectmen and as a representative in the legislature,” said former selectman Hank Boyle.
“He especially enjoyed working as a member of the Hillsborough County delegation.”
That view was shared by others in the community.
“I enjoyed working with Bruce and in all of our dealings, he was always a gentleman,” said Marie Boyle. “Bruce was never mean-spirited, and despite all of his illnesses, he didn’t complain.”
Family members include his wife, Edna, of Goffstown and three stepsons.
