The Goffstown Department of Public Works is completing its final phase of construction on the Grasmere roundabout.

Work at the roundabout is taking place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Goffstown police and the Department of Public Works urge motorists to seek alternate routes during this final phase.

However, Center Street resident Diane Rand said many unlucky motorists have found themselves stuck in traffic backed up to Glen Lake during construction.

“If we started at 10 a.m. and stopped at 2 p.m. like everyone wants, we’d be doing this for about six months,” said Goffstown director of Public Works Carl Quiram. “There is no good time.”

Quiram added that work is not being done on the roundabout at night when traffic is lighter because it would violate the town’s noise ordinance.

Rand said everyone she has talked to since the roundabout was installed has negative comments.
“‘It’s too small. It’s ugly.’ No one’s happy about it,” said Rand.

Rand said many residents also wonder how they will be able to navigate the roundabout once all the curbing is installed.

According to Carl Quiram, the roundabout speed limit is 15 mph.

“You can get around it if you’re going slow enough,” said Quiram. “People are navigating it now with all the barrels and cones and guys working there.”

The Department of Public Works anticipates the remainder of this project to be completed within two weeks.
