Epsom voters to consider road improvements, SB-2

BY GINGER KOZLOWSKI

If Epsom residents are tired of bumpy conditions on their roads, now is the time to voice that dissatisfaction. That will likely draw debate at the deliberative session of Town Meeting as voters consider seven warrant articles on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 9 a.m. at Epsom Central School. The deliberative session of School District Meeting takes place Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m., also at Epsom Central School.

School
The only warrant article on the school district ballot is for the operating budget of Epsom Central School. Voters will be asked to raise $8,108,061 as an operating budget. Should that fail, the default budget would be $40,579 lower at $8,067,482.

Article 3 asks for $150,000 to put in a capital reserve fund that takes care of improvements to the town’s roads.

Article 4 asks voters if the town clerk/tax collector should be allowed to accept credit cards for the payment of local taxes, charges generated by the sale of utility services and other fees. Service charges would be added for the use of credit cards.

Article 5 asks for $100,000 for the Highway Department Road Maintenance line if the budget does not pass. This is a petitioned warrant article.

Article 6, also a petitioned warrant article, asks to establish a Webster Park Revolving Fund to receive rental fees and be used for equipment, improvements and repairs at the park.

Article 7 asks voters to rescind the official ballot law (RSA 40:13, commonly known as SB-2), which would return the town to the traditional form of Town Meeting where voting takes place at the meeting instead of on Election Day. This petitioned warrant article requires a three-fifths majority to pass.
