A veteran New Hampshire newsman has been named executive director of the Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications.
David Tirrell-Wysocki of Concord has won national awards for his broadcast and newspaper writing and network reporting, including coverage of the New Hampshire Presidential Primary and the space shuttle Challenger disaster. A graduate from Boston University, he worked on New England newspapers and radio stations, including the Worcester, Mass., Evening Gazette, WEEI in Boston, WKNE in Keene, and WKXL in Concord.
Tirrell-Wysocki joined The Associated Press in Concord in 1977 and serves as a general assignment reporter and Northern New England Broadcast Editor. He intends to continue in that role while overseeing the school.
“Mrs. Loeb left us a great gift with this school, and I am honored to be able to help bring its journalism, photography, broadcast and First Amendment classes to New Hampshire residents,’’ he said.
Tirrell-Wysocki has previously served the school as a teacher and curriculum coordinator. He has been serving as interim director of the Manchester-based school since the beginning of the year. He was named to the top post at the school trustees’ annual meeting last month.
“David has been with the school since its inception,’’ said school president, Joseph W. McQuaid. “We are delighted that he has agreed to take on this important role for us as we continue to make the school the state’s primary resource for the First Amendment and Right To Know law.’’
The nonprofit school was founded by the late president and publisher of the New Hampshire Union Leader. It is located in Manchester and offers a variety of courses, most free of charge, to New Hampshire residents. It promotes the First Amendment and honors residents at its First Amendment Awards Dinner each November. For more information, see www.Loebschool.org, or call 627-0005.
