Next time you see it snow, you may want to think about running outside and creating a snowman or other snow sculpture. For the second year, the Bow Recreation Department is sponsoring a snow sculpture contest.
“(Last year) there was a picture in The Bow Times that was of a man with a sculpture in front of his house, and in the caption it said he wished there were some type of snow sculpture contest in town,” said Bow Recreation director Cindy Rose. “So we thought, ‘Hey, why don’t we do that?’”
Last year, the Recreation Department got a late start with the contest and received only one entry, so this year, residents are being given more time work their creative juices. “People have already been talking about (the contest),” said Rose. And if there isn’t much snow between now and February?
“We’ll do this even if we have only one entry,” laughed Rose.
Here are the rules: Simply build any type of snow sculpture you would like to display that can be seen from the road. Then e-mail a photo of your creation along with your name, address and phone number to prdir@bow-nh.gov no later than Feb. 2.
Once all the photos have been received, the Recreation Department will ride around Bow to look at the top 10 photo picks in two categories: Best Snowman and Best Snow Sculpture.
Prizes will be awarded for the best in both categories, and winners will be announced at Bow Winterfest on Feb. 7.
“The sky’s the limit,” said Rose. “We’d like to see really creative, fun things. And we’d like to see a lot of participation in the town, with families building things together. This is something for the community to enjoy together.”
