Charlotte Buxton has been with the Baker Free Library in Bow for more than 20 years. And she’s still loving every minute of it.
“It’s gone fast, and yet, it’s been a long time,” said Buxton, who celebrated her 20th year Nov. 16. “ Its been a good experience and a great job.”
Prior to becoming a librarian, Buxton spent a year as a library trustee.
During that time, she said her desire to play a larger role at the library grew.
“I really enjoyed it because I had never been exposed to a library that much before,” she said. “It was kind of like a candy shop to me.“
To those who have known Buxton over her two decades at the Bow library, her personality is infectious, said library director Linda Kling, who joined the library five months after Buxton.
“To the library, she’s a fabulous employee, but to the town and community, she is just this wonderful person,” said Kling.
“She has the fantastic ability to remember everyone’s names and she loves her job so she is just the ideal employee.”
“Everyone in town knows her and loves her and she is always happy to help and she never gives up if she can’t find something; she just keeps working on it.”
So what’s the best word to describe Buxton’s tenure as a library assistance at Baker Free Library?
“Consistency,” said Kling.
“She’s always here with her great work ethic, and she just loves her job. she’s a genuinely nice person.
“I think those are the qualities you want in all your employees and I’m lucky because we have that here.”
To Buxton, however, she is the privileged one.
“They’ve all been great, just a really good group of people to work with,” she said. “I’ve enjoyed meeting all the people and it has just been great working with the public and the staff here.”
