After raising $24,000 in college scholarships for high school students last year, the Bow Rotary Auction Gala will offer a variety of items at a live auction and online.
The 26th annual event will take place Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Bow Community Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., followed by a silent auction at 6 p.m. and a live auction at 7 p.m.
For the first time, the Rotary is hosting a Web-based silent auction through Tuesday, Oct. 31, in addition to its live event on Nov. 4.
“It’s kind of like an eBay-type auction,” said Rotary Club member Dan De Vasto. “There are over 50 various items ranging from inexpensive to some pricier things, so people who can’t come to the auction itself can actually bid on things and buy them online.”
Items up for bid at both the live and online auctions include gift certificates to local restaurants and merchants, distinctive products from crafts to sporting goods, tickets to events in New Hampshire and in Boston, and vacation packages.
While most of the proceeds will go toward scholarships, De Vasto said the club will also provide grants to help financially disadvantaged or handicapped children who participate in camps and specialized rehabilitation programs.
“We enjoy doing it and we get a lot of help both from members of the club and from the community,” De Vasto said. “Obviously, it’s for a good purpose, but it’s a social event as well. So basically, it’s a good time to be had while supporting a worthwhile cause.”
Food will be provided by Chen Yang Li, The Common Man, Constantly Pizza, The Draft, and Hermano’s Cocina Mexicana.
Entertainment will include live jazz music from the Freese Brothers Band.
Ways to support the event include direct monetary contributions, donations of time and services, and contributions to prize packages such as gift certificates, vacations, time shares and sports or event tickets.
