Olde Towne Day brought out the crowds on a Saturday that afforded perfect weather and plenty to do.
This year the funds from the event will go to the Our Promise to Nicholas Foundation, the Bedford Bobcats Special Olympics team, and the Stand By Me program at Ross Lurgio School.
The day offered activities, food, live performances, contests and even a petting zoo of animals from the Joppa Hill Educational Farm.
Anna Kilburn, 7, fed grass to a dwarf goat named Moose.
“He’s actually new to the farm,” Shannon Durning, 25, a farm volunteer from Nashua said. She said the animals are always around volunteers and love people. “They’re all so friendly,” she said.
At the Brophy Wealth Management booth, Chrisann Dalton helped youngsters play Plinko -- a popular Price is Right game -- for prizes such as a candy.
“This is cool. It’s fun,” she said. “This is our first year.”
Beverly Thomas worked at a booth promoting the Bedford Village Common, a public park being built on Route 101.
“We’re kicking off our brick fundraiser,” she said. People interested in buying bricks in the park had been signing up for information throughout the day, she said.
“There’s been a lot of enthusiasm with the park,” she said.
One of the most popular booths was Bedford Community Television’s “Be A Star” booth, where people could tape a 30-second TV spot to be broadcast.
“It’s been going great. We usually take the studio to each one of the groups,” station manager Bill Jennings said, but this year they decided to open it up to everyone at the event. “We’ve had a lot of kids coming and they’re having a great time, and their parents are getting a kick out of it,” he said.
Casey Mullen, 12, Regina Flynn, 12, and Abby Guerra, 12, all students at Ross A. Lurgio Middle School, recorded a message together.
“We wish you could be here today, because we’re having a lot of fun at Olde Towne Day. So be a star!” Flynn said into the camera during one practice run.
The girls did not let the fame go to their head.
“It was pretty cool,” Mullen said.
Tom Hall won the Apple Pie Baking Contest with his “Crunchy Caramel Apple Pie,” winning a gift certificate to Macy’s. The blue ribbon winner in the junior division was Moe Russel, with Kayla Girard taking second place. Hall won the senior division with Julie Andrews in second place.
Food was provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, T-Bones, Gloria Jean’s Coffee, Weathervane, Outback Steahouse and The Meat House in Bedford, and from the Red Arrow Diner, Fratello’s and Amigos Mexican Cantina in Manchester.
Winners of the Bull Frog Bounce were all Bedford residents.
First place went to Sheri Milom, who won $100. Second place went to Kerri Crowley, who won $75 and third place went to Brian Fox, who won $50.
