Residents canvassed back yards, fields and the side of the road to clean up litter at the Greenfield Farms neighborhood for their second annual Greenfield Farms Goes Green Day.
Aimed toward providing a safer and cleaner neighborhood for residents, Andrea Chatfield and her Greenfield Farms Goes Green Day committee also hope to build a sense of community and pride in the neighborhood.
“They’re not being deterred by the weather,” said Chatfield on Sunday, May 4, amid cloudy skies and drizzle. “I think people are going to be surprised with what they find.”
Some of the items found included a bike in perfect condition except for broken brakes, a VCR, a road detour sign, a skateboard and a beach chair.
“It feels wonderful to keep our environment clean,” said Nicole Faxon, who was with her daughter, Mandy, cleaning trash along Liberty Hill Road.
“It’s fun,” said neighbor Peter Murphy. “The kids enjoy it.”
Nicole Manni, a member of the Greenfield Farms Goes Green committee agreed.
“It’s been a huge success,” said Manni. “We’re thrilled. We’re so appreciative so many people came out.” Chatfield said the trash may be an eye-opener for
some people.
“I hope it makes people think about how much really is out there,” Chatfield said.
